Richard was one of the first family law attorneys in the county to be awarded the premier AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell. He has been named among the Top Attorneys in Southern California by Super Lawyers Magazine in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
Outside of the courtroom, Richard has exhibited involvement and leadership in the profession as well as in the local community. He has taught Family Law at Ventura College of Law and on numerous occasions acted as Judge Pro Tempore in the Ventura Family Law Courts. Richard is a founding member of Collaborative Family Lawyers and the Ventura County Family Bar Association, of which he is Past President. He is also Past President of the Ventura Community College Foundation, where he and Judge Colleen Toy White established the Phoenix scholarship program to assist persons trying to re-enter the work force after a long absence. He has been active in the Ventura Jaycees, the Ventura Chamber of Commerce, and the Buenaventurans. He sits on the Board of Directors of Villanova Preparatory School in Ojai and is helping raise donations for scholarships.
